INDUSTRY NEWS: JANET'S COMEBACK
Word has it that Janet Jackson is ready for a comeback in 2010. Earlier this year it was reported that Ms. Jackson parted ways with Island Def Jam records, and recently it was reported that she and long-time boyfriend/collaborator Jermaine Dupri split. Reports also claim that Janet has reunited with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and they've been recording like crazy. Janet wants her new record released in early 2010 although she has not signed with a new label.
I think its great that Janet wants to get out there and put out some new music since her brother Michael's recent passing. Her last album "Discipline" actually had some decent cuts but I feel like the entire Jermaine situation reunined her career. It was perfectly fine that they were romantically involved but he did not need to take over executive production of any Janet projects, and convince her to fire Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis when those two men are responsible for her career. They were behind the production of every single Janet album since her breakthrough "Control" until 2004's "Damita Jo." The time apart should allow the dynamic threesome to create some magic.
As far as labels go, I could see Janet signing with Epic Records since they are trying to revamp their Urban division in addition to being her late brother Michael's home label. Or she could be securing a lucrative Live Nation 360 deal since. Nevertheless, any label that has reservations on signing Janet is crazy because fans will buy her new music for simple fact that she is releasing music after Michael's passing, and for the fact that she makes amazing music when depressed.
I will keep you all posted with New Janet information.
