While reading a back issue of Vibe magazine from 04' on Google Books, I found out the Queen of Funk Soul, Chaka Khan, did a cover of Michael Jackson's first solo record "Got to Be There." In this mini-feature, Chaka states that she never like the original song and only record this cover because long-time collaborator Arif Marden ("I'm Every Woman," "What Cha' Gonna Do For Me?," etc.) insisted she do so.
Nevertheless, this cover is amazing. On the original, Michael's vocal intonations aren't as clear as Chaka's here so you really get an apprecation for her a supreme vocal interpretation that still follows the melody.
