THROWBACK : ALL THAT I GOT IS YOU
Here is a real Hip-Hop classic. With this one I was thinking that I would take it back to the 90's, instead of the 60's this time around. LOL. "All That Got Is You" by Ghostface Killah, and supporting vocals from Mary J. Blige is one of my favorite rap songs. The honesty in this track is so real on so many levels; it will make you cry if you've never heard it before. The lyric is a mini-biography, and Mary's vocal is like joy and pain. The beat samples the Jackson 5's classic record "Maybe Tomorrow," which is an unusual track from their discography, and unusual that that is featured production from someone outside of Motown, Philly producer Thom Bell. Back to Ghostface, this song is definitely his best and one of the best rap songs PERIOD. The song as an entire entity was just genius from each verse, the hook, the bridge, and the beat.
